Abraham Lewis, a young African-American man fleeing slavery, is sent by the North West Company to go up the course of the Agawa River. Abraham gets himself through the woods, in order to establish a first report of the resources in the area. After a long walk in a setting stricken by a harsh winter, he halts in a marsh to chase his dinner. Abraham does not suspect that he is being watched by a young woman lurking in tall grass.
